Concrete is
pumped to the foundation where it is placed in the beams and floor per the structural
engineers design. As concrete is placed, workers use a metal "screed
board" to level the floor and prepare it for the concrete finisher. The finisher uses
both motorized mechanical and hand trowels to create a smooth level floor. The
builder monitors the placement of the concrete to assure that the contractor follows the
specifications of the foundation plan. Pierce also employs an independent structural
engineer to inspect the foundation and provide a written certification that the foundation
was completed according to plans and specifications.
