Energy Efficiency - Batt Insulation
Pierce Homes Energy Program

Pierce EFL homes use foam insulation to provide our homeowners with more value and a consistently higher quality installation.   The following photos show some of the problems associated with batt insulation and why it is difficult to get a consistently quality installation of the product.  The photo below shows how batt insulation is typically compressed around electrical boxes, this reducing the insulation R value in this location.

The photo above as well as the one below shows how batts are typically installed in wall cavities.  The side stapling shown in these photos forms a "convective pocket" between the insulation and the wallboard, this providing a space where condensation can occur with the attendant problems that it causes.  The photo below also demonstrates the non continuous nature of typical batt installation, this providing lower R values and additional areas where condensation can occur.

The photo below again shows the discontinuous nature of typical batt installation.

All of the above problems are not visible to the homeowner but the purchaser of a Pierce EFL home can be assured that their home has been inspected several times during construction by third parties to insure that problems such as shown above are not present in their home.  This is the "hidden quality" that is inherent in each Pierce home.
